SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
At the end of each football unit in Mr. Fox's Team Sports classes, students get the opportunity to play in the "Fox Bowl." This game is a two-day, full-field, flag football game played between graduates of West and Reuther middle schools. This game provides students some insight about the ins and outs of how to prepare for and play in an actual game of football. The West vs. Reuther matchup creates a fun and spirited atmosphere in which students can showcase their football talents. This spring Reuther defeated West 28-12 in Mr. Fox's first hour, but West won 32-28 in 6th hour. The "Fox Bowl" has always created an exciting and authentic setting for which students can apply their football knowledge and skills.

2018 BOSTON TRIP
Rochester High is excited to announce Rochester High School’s trip to Boston, MA! It will take place Saturday, May 12 – Tuesday, May 15, 2018. This trip will be open to all students enrolled in AP US History and AP Government in 2017/2018.
We will be partnering with Close Up, a non-profit organization that since 1971 has provided hands-on educational programs for nearly 800,000 students and teachers from across the country. Using Boston as a living classroom, students will get a ‘close up’ view of American history, government, and democracy in action. Close Up trains its own staff of full-time teaching fellows to partner with our teachers to deliver an engaging and exciting curriculum that helps students connect what they are seeing and experiencing to what they have learned in school.
During our time in Boston, students will have the opportunity to visit many key institutions and historic sites—highlights include the Freedom Trail, Plimoth Plantation, Salem, and social activities. Students will also explore the legislative process by participating as a Senator-in-training at the Senator Edward Kennedy Institute.
Please email Mr. Zwolinski (czwolinski@rochester.k12.mi.us) or Mrs. Matthews (lmatthews1@rochester.k12.mi.us) with any questions.

SPRING BAND CONCERT
On Wednesday, May 17 the Rochester High School Bands and Mr. David A. Uhrig, Director of Bands presented their Spring Spectacular concert! The Concert Band, Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble each performed three beautiful selections in front of an appreciative audience. It is an RHS tradition that at the spring concert, one senior is the featured solo artist who takes center stage and is accompanied by the Wind Ensemble. This year’s soloist was Kane Phillips on Alto Saxophone playing “Concerto in Eb” by Glazunov/trans. Kreines. Kane received a standing ovation after his incredible performance! Thank you to everyone who show their support for all of these fine musicians!
PHYSICS VISITS CEDAR POINT
On May 18 the Physics students traveled to Cedar Point for physics and math week. During this week Cedar Point hosts special presentations, demonstrations and hands on exhibits from science organizations and universities. Students applied the principles learned in class to engaging, complex, real world systems. Estimation and solving basic analytical design problems are emphasized. They were able to experience the laws of physics in motion, and practice the application of math and science while enjoying amusement park excitement.
NEW RHS EQUESTRIAN TEAM
Any horse crazy students want to show their school spirit? Rochester High is excited to announce the RHS Equestrian Team! This is a new club for male and female horse enthusiasts to compete against other high schools in fall meets. Both riders and non-riding horse lovers are welcome. Riders must be proficient for high school level competition, be willing to participate in meetings and practices, and own/lease/borrow a horse for competitions in September and October. Non-riding members can be anyone who loves horses, but doesn’t want the pressure of competition. Fall competitions are against local schools in English, Western, Showmanship, Jumping, Reining, Trail, Barrel Racing, Pole bending, and more. For more details see the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association web page. CAPTAINS CLUB CLEANS CLINTON RIVER
Every sports seasons the Rochester High School Captains Club will choose a service project as part of their leadership building. This springs captains chose to work with the Clinton Watershed Council to help clean up trash around the Clinton River. Participants gave up time on their Saturday morning to help pick up over 50 pounds of trash that could have made its way into the water ways of the Clinton River. Thank you to our spring captains who came out to serve the community.
