On the first day of school Mrs. Slomka's Microbiology class completed a Next Generation Science based activity where they experienced the phenomena of trying to create multiple bubbles within an existing bubble. The purpose was to understand how their mind worked as they diagnosed the successes and pitfalls of the phenomena! The class also discussed cleanliness, how it may have affected the bubble and how cleanliness is essential in the creation of their Fruit Fly breeding lab.

On the first day of school Mrs. Slomka's Anatomy class was given a list of organs they may or may not be familiar with. Using context clues and partner discussion, the goal was for them to draw the shape, location and justification for their organ placement. It was a lesson in patience and controlled chaos and the idea that it's okay to be wrong sometimes. The class laughed when the correct locations were revealed and plans to keep their drawings until the end of the year so they can see how much they've learned and grown!

On the first day of school Mrs. Slomka's Biology class completed a Next Generation Science based Activity where they experienced the phenomena of piercing a pencil through a bag filled with water.  Depending on the pencil and the approach, often times the bag did NOT leak!  They then discussed the different forces in play with the phenomenon and created multiple experiments to prove or disprove certain ideas.
