Students in the Drawing and Painting class taught by Mr. Woodward recently completed a figure drawing unit that finished with a self-portrait. The class started the project by venturing outside the classroom and collecting grape vines from along the fence. The vines were cut into pencil sized pieces and then place inside of a metal can with a second can over the top sealing the branches within. The can was placed over a bed of coals from a fireplace and sat on the heat for the rest of the evening. There is little oxygen in the can, so the sticks do not burn, but turn to charcoal. The vine charcoal makes an excellent drawing material because it can be applied quickly, and also wipes off easily with a rag. Charcoal has been used since the first images were drawn in caves thousands of years ago. The project allows students to make this primitive connection, but also gives them the confidence that they can create with any material. The project had students practice drawing each other as they made dramatic poses, then later began to focus on facial details before finishing with a life-size portrait of themselves. The project was a big success as some created photo like recreations, and others showed drastic improvement as they progressed from stick figures to realistic looking people.

Rochester Alliance of Theatre Students proudly present Chicago as their Fall musical, November 17-20, 2016. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, the story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the "celebrity criminal." Nightclub sensation Velma murders her philandering husband, but she's got Chicago's slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn, set to defend her. However, when Roxie Hart also winds up in prison for murder, Billy takes on her case as well -- turning her into a media circus of headlines.  Neither woman will be outdone in their fight against each other and the public for fame and celebrity.  This production is rated PG-13.

Showtimes are as follows: Friday & Saturday @7:00pm, Saturday Matinee @2:00pm, Sunday @4:00pm.
Tickets are on sale now!  For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the R.A.T.S. web page: www.ratstheatre.org

Please note: The Performing Arts wing is currently under construction, but the Auditorium is OPEN.  Please park in the north lots (adjacent to Walton Blvd.) and enter the building through the main entrance.
